The growing City of Bonn with its 320,000 inhabitants is characterised by its internationality. Being the seat of 18 UN institutions and various international organisations, cultural variety constitutes a major issue of Bonn’s cityscape. Furthermore, through headquarters of global players like Deutsche Post World Net/DHL or Telekom, Bonn could consolidate a major economic position in the field of telecommunications in Europe. The former capital has become a federal city and is now an administrative centre of the Federal Republic of Germany, having numerous governmental departments and federal agencies fulfilling national duties and responsibilities worldwide. As the native city of Ludwig van Beethoven and the domain of August Macke, Bonn is an important cultural and scientific centre with university departments and research institutes counting more than 30,000 young people. Regarding tourism, Bonn is a very popular destination and attracts each year more than a million tourists to its fascinating natural environment and regional typical events as the annual International Beethoven Festival, the pyrotechnical spectacle “Rhine in Flames”, carnival or the over 600 years old fun fair “Pützchens Markt”. Also the population is international: In Bonn live about 70,000 people from 170 different countries.
